At the seaside of the Mediterranean, in Costa Tropical and to few km. of Sierra Nevada, it is the city of Amuñécar, that it seems to have special charm, because when you know it, you need to come back again.
It is settled
in a tropical fertile valley, protected by mountains range like Almijara and Contraviesa -, that makes that its temperatures are softer, around 21º C.

Almunecar, has a historical and cultural important legacy that at the present time should be forced visit.
The city, founded by Phoenicians in the century VIII b.C, it was settled in San Miguel's Hill.
They put into operation a salt fish factory that would be enlarged in Roman time and its production would be known outside of our frontiers. Some Greeks and Romans historians make allusion to the city of Sexi and the exquisite products of its salt fish factory.
In Roman time, they are carried out architectural works of importance like they are: the Roman Aqueduct and a built magnificent group of vaults in the summit of San Miguel's Hill, called Cave of Seven Palaces, place where the Archaeological Municipal Museum is located at the present time.
In Arab time, the castle was summer residence of the dynasty nazarí and it is located in the summit of San Miguel's Hill, that gives name to the same one. In this hill it is the city old town -since Phoenicians founded it - and there it remains to give testimony of its past.
To the castle feet, it extends the rest of the city surrounded of its fertile vega, where the Arab cultivated the cane of sugar for the first time and which cultivation has been active until the middle of the XX century.
By the moment, in Almunecar exists a varied production of tropical fruits -that it is possible thanks to its special climatology- that besides the tourism it is an important reinforcement for its economy.
Almuñécar has an extension of 83 km2 and a population of 24.713 inhabitants approximately.
